The sales of used cars within the UK has increased by 8 percent in the first six months of 2016. From January through to June, there has been a staggering total of over 4 million used cars sold. These statistics were collated by SMMT, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.
Although this is a somewhat surprising figure given our current economic climate, it shows individuals are now choosing to go down the used car route as opposed to buying new cars.
From the sales information gathered from SMMT in the first six months of this year, it was also found that the Ford Fiesta was the UK’s most popular, both in the new and used car markets.
So although the Ford Fiesta tipped the charts what were the other best new and used cars to buy in 2016?
Over 60 thousand Ford Fiestas were sold, with the Vauxhall Corsa, Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf all being and incredibly popular second hand car choices. The super mini and other small family cars were all popular within the used car motor trade.
When were most cars sold and what were the most popular colours?
April was by far the most popular month to buy a car, this was mainly due to the fact of the registration plate change taking place in March. Over 750,000 used cars were sold in April this year.
Statistics gained found that silver was the popular colour choice with over half a million cars of this colour being sold. Other popular colours included grey, blue and black. Bolder colours such as those of yellow also made a comeback.

The strength of the used car industry and a hopeful future for the used car
Within the motor trade world it would appear that the used car industry is stronger than ever. Due to this surge in used car sales, the new car has also seen an increase in sales with record figures sold.
When the financial crisis struck in 2008, the sales of new cars were badly damaged. The number of sales dramatically fell and then sunk to an all-time low.
However in 2015 there appeared to be an increase in the number of new cars that were sold, this had a positive impact on the used car industry. To date, this year so far has shown that the most popular age of the used car is between one and three years old.
When buying any used car it is important that you have the necessary insurance policy to drive the car. In order to test drive a car from a used car dealer, the dealership will have a specialist insurance policy or trade plates to allow you to test drive their vehicles.
With so many highly competitively priced used cars to choose from, consumers today have more choice than ever before.
