Unicom Insurance wins the coveted ‘Trade Insurance Provider of the Year’ 2019 Award!
The Car Dealer Power Awards, which celebrated their tenth anniversary in 2019, marks the climax of a comprehensive survey commissioned by ‘Car Dealer’ magazine. The survey invites the public to express their views on manufacturers and suppliers in various categories, confidentially, by awarding them marks out of ten. The award ceremony took place on 26th September 2019, in the inspirational surroundings of the Spinnaker Tower high above Portsmouth Harbour.
2019 Winner in the ‘Trade Insurance Provider of the Year’ category was Unicom Insurance Services, which since its foundation in 1992, has grown to become the dominant force in its area of specialisation.
As such, Unicom Insurance has a market-wide perspective and can provide a tailor made insurance policy to anyone working in the motor trade, full or part-time, regardless of whether they buy, sell, repair or service vehicles, or are involved with new and used cars in some other capacity.
Other factors that lead to Unicom seeing off significant competition and becoming the newly appointed ‘top dog’ include a wealth of experience, which is reflected by sound advice and exceptionally high levels of customer service from a dedicated sales team. Unicom Insurance Services won the same award at the Car Dealer Power Awards back in 2017 and had been ‘Highly Commended’ in the same category in 2018, before proudly regaining there crown again this year.
The razzle-dazzle of the awards ceremony also produced many more worthy winners, some of which were rather predictable, but some less so. The ‘Manufacturer of the Year’ and ‘Car of the Year’ awards both went to Japanese multinational corporations, namely Mazda and Suzuki, respectively; in the case of the latter for its iconic miniature SUV, the Suzuki Jimny, which received a long-awaited overhaul in 2019.

Top of the shop in the ‘Online Advertiser for New Cars’ and ‘Online Advertiser for Used Cars’ categories came established websites What Car? and eBay, respectively, while another long-standing business, Auto Trader, beat the likes of Cap HPI and Glass’s to the ‘Used Car Valuations Provider of the Year’ award.
Not altogether surprisingly, Autoglym, which has been a trusted supplier of car care products to amateur and professional vehicle detailers at home and abroad for decades, won the ‘Cleaning Product of the Year’ award, as it had done the previous year.
Less predictably, perhaps – although entirely in keeping with the category title – the ‘Product Innovation of the Year’ award went to legal consultancy Lawgistics for its cloud-based software product HR Manager, which assists employers with various legal obligations, including, but not limited to, human resources.
James Baggot, founder of motoring editorial agency Blackball Media, which publishes ‘Car Dealer’ magazine, expressed his delight at the willingness of dealers to respond to the survey, even during what he described as an ‘incredibly tough time’ for the motor trade.
